This what I don't like other than that hearing and seeing screenshot of WoW I am glad I am not playing.GW graphics are what make the game addicting and there is way to much info on WoW UI than GW.

I played WoW for about two months and got up to level 40. Then... I got bored. I stopped playing for 3 weeks, despite paying for it, and only cancelled it after the Factions weekend
One of the biggest things that changed my mind was the fact that my fiance and a friend of ours(now two friends, though the second just got out of pre-sear) have been playing through the PvE portion in a LAN. It makes Guild Wars very enjoyable to have a team composed of all friends, all sitting in the same house yelling at eachother
While this could happen in WoW... it would be much harder to convince them to both buy a game and then pay for it each month...especially because we all only have time to play as a group maybe twice a week. Casual gamers really get screwed by monthly fees.

To get a level 60 in WOW could cost u 6 months time not to mention the monthly fee. In GW an experienced player can level up a 20 in 2 weeks, make a PVP toon, and experience high level gaming at the same time. The way GW has merged PVP and PVE is amazing.

Its the quantity of time versus overal readiness and the requirement to repeate the content in order to do so in the most efficient manner. The "most efficient manner" and the rate of change have really only been the points of contention, not the fact that it does take time to do.

The story/movies/missions method is far superior then going out a killing 20 raptors and returning 20 raptor claws to some NPC on the other side of the world from where u have to go to find the dam raptors.

Play any stand alone game and compare it to GW and you have a bad comparison for quality and depth of a story. Personally, id advise you to put down WOW and pick up FFXI for a better comparison, but thats just me.

Play lineage 2. That would be the equivilant of a "guild hall" in a persisting world.

Smaller characters hide the 3-d blocky issues. I am curious though as to how many graphics holes you have found in WOW, because i can list several in GW.

Corporate ethics, combined with a cash cow title akin to star wars, while following an established game theme and you are honestly surprised at that? We could talk about how dailup users took 2-5 minutes to load a single pvp map and never showed up at times durring the preview event that happend a couple weeks ago if you like.

Wow it is a high poly count game, in a popular zone within a persisting world environment. I could say wow again, (oops i did) but i hope you are not seriously suprised by this.

It could be that, or it could be people just expecting everyone to be at the same readiness level considering the lack of leveling up required within GW. The 13yr olds in WoW will be the level 60s using various tricks to pick on low level characters in greif play tactics.

3) The whole time I played, I ran through a huge city with a relatively small amount of NPCs sprinkled around that by in large were useless.
4) The only quests like things I got were to collect some random items that I was not told where to collect.
5) The HUD map system was so terrible, I gave up before I could find my way out of town.
6) There was no initial direction or tutorial to get me on my feet whatsoever. I was basically thrown into a world, given a gentle tap on the butt with a cheap slooooooooow cutscene that was entirely text based and explained nothing, then let loose.

Sounds like you played the game all of 5 minutes to me. Comming from games like EQ or DAOC, FFXI flowed very easily and had alot of characteristics that neither of the aforementioned games really delved into deeply or at all.

Sigh.. I'm getting sick of the argument about not comparing WOW and GW because GW is a PVP game. GW IS NOT A PVP GAME!!!

Exactly. For those of you that are saying that this game is "pure pvp", read the manual. It has scriptures and books about "Guild Wars" between Kryta and Ascalon. It said nothing about PVP R0X0RZ JO0R S0XRZ AND IWAY R9 LFG FTW! Please do some research before going on and boosting your ego on forums. It will not work.

It's marginal at best. It has some nice elements but with such an extensive history behind the name, i'd figure it would be a whole hell of a lot better. Warcraft 3 is a better example of what could have been done.....graphic wise GW is superior. story line ..GW....ease of use...GW....no monthly fees......well, priceless........GW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

Yea, it's really a wonder why WoW has managed to sell 5x as many copies as a far superior game like GW
BTW, anyone ever played EVE. Personally i think thats an even worse scam. First you have to go through a 5 hour tutuorial, then when you get out theres practically nobody around because its such a gigantic, plain, boring map. You have to click like in runescape to navigate and attack.

I, for one, am glad to see such an intelligent, open-minded debate on the comparison between WoW and GW. I always find that GW players can say that they kinda like WoW and WoW has some good points, whereas WoW players immediately nail you to a cross and stab you with many poking things the second you say "Hey, any of you tried GW?"
There's another point you fellas missed: map travel. WoW takes ages to walk anywhere, flight costs start to add up, ferries and trams only run limited places, and the mounts cost the equivalent of 40,000 platinum in GW. So kudos to ArenaNet for their map travel system.
That said, I'm currently enjoying WoW since it -is- a break from GW. Bring on Factions!

If you call holding a keg while pressing the same 2 keys for 6 hours to get some new item that does a total of 3 more damage per hit not grinding, then I don't know what the hell grinding is. WoW is fun because of the exploration aspect and the fact that it's more of a community game. Gw is fun because the story is nice until the end the experimentation with builds.

I loved FFXI. The battle-system was polished, though it was very slow and got repetitive after a while... and the fact that I value my social life.
You cannot be successful in FFXI and maintain a normal social life at the same time.
If it wasn't for that, I'd still be playing FFXI.
Didn't expect to fall in love with GW, though... I just bought the game at random... Didn't even see any screenshots of it, just heard it was somewhat of a Diablo II rip-off. I didn't expect to like it so much, just to keep me slightly busy for a week or two.

The bigger scam, if you want to call it that, is the set timer to learn anything. It quite literally forces a new player to sit and wait for months before they can use anything worthwhile to any noteworthy level for "competition". This is important because it is an open venue pvp, opposed to GW that has some structure to it. Then you also have to worry about thieves, scams, market inflation/gouging/control, and so on which are all just "part of the game". It does several things pretty damm well though, its just a game that you can play without actually do much each week aside from logging in and clicking 3-5 times before logging out again for another week.

in my opinion after watching my freind grind for hours on end soloing wihtout co op and no conversation it effing sucks i would kill my self or even start playing Runescape again instead of playin WoW although there are flaws in gw like not being able to hold over 100k thats forces me and thousands of other people to go and invest in little globs of purple snot
